Privacy Policy

Introduction

At MemoryVerses.com, our mission is to help our users memorize the Bible and its verses while providing a social network environment for encouragement. This privacy policy applies to our website at MemoryVerses.com and our iOS mobile application (collectively, the "Service"). This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

Information Collection

We collect personal information that you provide to us directly during the account registration process. This includes:

• Name
• Home city and state
• Email
• Password

We also collect what you create as you use the Service, including the verses and collections you add, your practice history, and — only if you choose to record and save them — audio or video of you reciting a verse. See Microphone, Recordings & Video below.

Microphone, Recordings & Video

Some ways of practicing use your device's microphone or camera. Your browser or your phone will always ask your permission first, and you can refuse and keep using every other part of the Service.

Say the Verse. When you recite a verse out loud, the audio is sent to a speech-to-text provider so we can compare what you said with the verse. We use Deepgram for this, and OpenAI Whisper as a backup when Deepgram is unavailable. They convert your speech into text and return it to us. We do not keep that audio unless you ask us to.

Saved recordings. If you turn on “Offer to save my verse recordings” in your account settings, we will offer to keep a recording after you practice. Nothing is saved unless you press Save on that particular recording. Saved recordings are stored privately and are played back only to you, through links that expire. Delete a recording and both the file and its record are removed. Delete your account and all of them go with it. We are the ones storing the file, so we are able to access it — we do not listen to your recordings, and we will not share them or use them to train anything, but we cannot promise a recording could never be exposed by a security failure. If that is not a risk you want to take, leave this setting off and nothing is ever kept.

Video. If you record a practice video, we store the video file and the text of what you said.

Social Features & Friend Connections

Our platform includes social networking features that allow you to connect with other users, add friends, and share your memorization progress. When you use these features, we collect and store information about your connections and interactions with other users. You can control your privacy settings and manage who can see your activity through your account settings.

Activity Feed & Progress Sharing

By using MemoryVerses.com and connecting with friends, you consent to your memorization activity being shared with your friends through their activity feed. This includes:

• When you practice verses
• When you memorize a verse
• When you begin memorizing a new verse
• When you join a public group
• When you add new verses to public collections
• When you make a collection public
• New friend connections

This activity sharing is designed to encourage and motivate you and your friends in your memorization journey. Activity from private collections and private groups is never shared in the activity feed.

Verse Collection Privacy

Your verse collections can be set to either Private or Public:

• Private Collections: Only you can see these collections. Your verses remain completely private and are not visible to anyone else. Activity in private collections is not shared.

• Public Collections: Friends and family can view your collection, copy the verses, and add them to their own collections to memorize together. Activity in public collections may appear in your friends' activity feeds.

You can change your collection's privacy setting at any time by visiting the collection and selecting the privacy option in the sidebar. By default, new collections are set to Private.

Let Your Light Shine Journal

Let Your Light Shine is a private journal where you can record the ways you served or encouraged someone. Entries are yours alone. They are never posted to the activity feed, never shown to your friends, group members, or church, never scored or ranked, and never used to train anything.

We take protecting these entries seriously. The text of every entry is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is written to our database, and the key that decrypts it is stored separately from the database itself, so a copy of the database alone cannot be read. The date of an entry is stored unencrypted so that your calendar and streak can be displayed.

Please read this part carefully. No system connected to the internet is ever completely secure, and we cannot promise that your entries will never be exposed. Encryption, access controls, and careful handling reduce risk, but they do not remove it. Data can be exposed through breaches, software bugs, mistakes on our end, legal requests, or someone gaining access to your own device or account.

For that reason, please do not write anything in your journal that would harm you or anyone else if it were seen by another person. Do not record confidential details about other people, passwords or financial information, or anything you would not be willing to have read aloud. Write freely, but write with the assumption that no online record is guaranteed to stay private forever.

You can delete any entry at any time from your journal page, and deleting your account removes your entries along with the rest of your personal information, subject to the limited log and backup retention described under Your Rights.

Use of Information

We use your information to:

• Provide memorization tools and social networking features
• Maintain your account and track your progress
• Enable friend connections and social interactions
• Share your achievements with friends through the activity feed
• Send notifications and encouragements via email

Your Rights

You can delete your account at any time, which will remove all your personal information from our database. To delete your account, visit your account settings and select 'Delete my Account'. Note that some information may remain in logs or backups for a limited time.

Data Security

We implement SSL and other security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use. Private journal entries in Let Your Light Shine receive an additional layer of encryption at rest, as described in that section above.

No method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure. While we work hard to protect your information using industry standard measures, we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and you provide information to us at your own risk. Please keep your password private, and choose carefully what personal details you record anywhere on the Service.

iOS Mobile Application

Our iOS app collects the same types of information described above. In addition, the app may collect device identifiers and usage data to improve performance and user experience. The app communicates with our servers over encrypted HTTPS connections to sync your verses, practice history, and account data.

Payment Information

MemoryVerses is a 100% free service. We do not collect any payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details from users. Historical subscription records from prior paid plans are retained for audit and refund purposes only.

Children's Privacy

MemoryVerses allows parents to create family member accounts for children under the age of 13. These child accounts are managed by the parent and have restricted access to social features, including groups, friends, challenges, shared verses, and announcements. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us and we will promptly remove the information.

Third-Party Services

Our Service integrates with the following third-party services:

• Bible translations: We display Scripture text from various Bible translations for memorization purposes. These are provided for personal, non-commercial use.
